Is the world ready for another classic rock female superstar?
Louisiana native, Temple Ray is probably the most original songwriter and guitarist to hit the music capitals Los Angeles, California, and Austin, Texas, since Melissa Etheridge, Beth Hart or Sheryl Crow.
Ray moved to Austin in 1994 after spending a decade working in the music industry from everything to being a songplugger to a session background vocalist in Los Angeles. A tenure at Bug Music Publishing in the City of Angels lead to friendships with Bonnie Raitt keyboarder and accordion player Steve Conn and Austin musicians Stephen Bruton and David Grissom (Joe Ely, John Mellencamp) who encouraged her to move to the Austin area to pursue her musical career. Ray and Grissom's friendship blossomed into a co-writing partnership that paid off big when a song they wrote and recorded aired on an episode of 'Melrose Place'. In addition, she has written songs for well-established artists like Bette Middler. One co-write with Grissom will also be on the forthcoming Storyville release due out in June 1998.
Temple Ray has surrounded herself with a seasoned band of the best players that Austin has to offer: guitarist Dale Allen, bassist "Big" John Main's, drummer Johnny Benoit, and guitarist Cid Sanchez And finally, there is Temple Ray. Influenced by John Hiatt and Steve Earle and compared to a variety of singers from Melissa Etheridge to Sheryl Crow, her original songs are catchy with a little alternative rock blended with just the right amount of country thrown in. She is definitely one to watch for!
